For the 12th year in a row Queensland has claimed the title of School Sport Australia Triathlon Champions. After an impressive second day in the relay events taking out three of the four relay races, Queensland claimed the top spot on the podium. Western Australia took out second place followed by New South Wales in third.

The Triathlon Championships officially closed on Friday, April 21 after what was a successful event for SSA, Triathlon Australia, Triathlon New South Wales and Mildren Events.

SSA Acting Executive Officer Michael Grant commented how proud he was of the students, officials and supporters who attended the Australian Schools Triathlon Festival.

“We witnessed some outstanding sporting achievements, but what warms my heart even more was the outstanding sportsmanship displayed. To see students assisting each other after they had crossed the finish line no matter if they were from a different state or territory is extremely gratifying,” he said.

“It has also been remarked to me how positive parents and families have been when they speak to their sons or daughters after a race. It is not about where they finished but how proud the parents have been when congratulating them. I applaud them all for the spirit in which they participated.”

  • The Sydney International Regatta Centre
  • Mildren Events
  • Education session presenters Simon Gillett (Amy Gillett Foundation) and Nutritionist Sarah Dakers-Mannings
  • Australian Olympic Commission
  • Olympians Loretta Harrop and Emma Snowsill
  • SSA National Secretary Meredith Prime
  • Graeme Jennings and the School Sport Australia Board

Mr Grant said he hopes the event is the first of many festivals and no doubt the success of the inaugural festival will help it grow in the future.

“We certainly have tried introducing new features and tweaking some of the existing concepts. I look forward to the feedback from our online survey and working with all our partners to promote the festival in years to come.”
